FRIENDS OF JAMAICA BASIC SCHOOLS STUDENTS

VISION STATEMENT:

Every child can read, write, comprehend and think for her or himself regardless of the status of her of his biological parents.

MISSION STATEMENT:

To nurture a next generation of Jamaicans who are caring, confident and self-sufficient with a spirit of abundance.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS:

How you can support Jamaica Basic School:

  • dollar sign Every child reading at or above grade level within the next ten (10) years.
  • heart Every expectant mother and father partnered with a basic school teacher who mentors that family until the child start and finishes basic school, to identify resources for the parents, to include prenatal care, training and work. (There are similar programs in other countries.)
  • dollar sign Every child receives a book basket at birth.
  • heart Equal resources for children attending basic school as government schools.
  • dollar sign Equal pay for staff and paraprofessionals.

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT A BASIC SCHOOL IN JAMAICA:

  1. Adopt a school, in the community you lived
  2. Send supplies
  3. Visit and help with devotion, getting students settled, spending a day at the school volunteering.
  4. For those residing in Jamaica, they can do the same.
  5. Read weekly to students in person or by zoom to include different career opportunities.
  6. Sponsor a specific event, such as sports day, teacher appreciation day, etc.
  7. Take a child and their family to an event to open their hearts and expand their minds.
  8. Help to provide employment for a child’s family or refer to an educational/job skills program or any other services to build a strong and nurturing home environment for the child.
  9. Leave a legacy in your will or trust for the school.

Our Motto: Each one, reach one. Each one, teach one. So that each one is self-sufficient.
